Mr. Philippe Laurent
Philippe Laurent is lawyer at the Brussels Bar and Counsel at Marx, Van Ranst, Vermeersch & Partners where his activities focus primarily on Intellectual Property (copyright, trademarks, databases, patents,…), Information Technologies, E-commerce and Data Protection. He usually advises and represents before the Belgian courts businesses in the software development & services, information processing, advertisement, media & entertainment, on-line commerce and merchandise distribution sectors.
Philippe is also appointed by CEPANI as Third-Party Decider for ".be" domain name disputes and is alternate member of the copyrights and neighbouring rights section of the Intellectual Property Council of the Belgian Ministry of Economy. He founded “LegalICT” (legalict.be), an initiative that offers legal training modules to ICT and Innovation-driven businesses and organisations and to administrations.
He has formerly been Senior Researcher at the CRIDS (Research Centre – Information, Law & Society of the University of Namur) where he studied the legal aspects of intellectual property licensing, data and software protection, open source schemes, cloud computing and the governance of the Internet.
