Mme. Andrea Halmos: The opportunities related to ICT-enabled public sector innovation (open government related topics) under H2020 at the event.
Innovation in the public sector is an important element for EU growth and competitiveness. Public sector modernisation has been supported for well over a decade; in particular through eGovernment. A lot of good results have been achieved by putting public services on-line and Member States have also demonstrated their commitment to cross-border interoperability by taking part in one or several Large Scale Pilots. >However, the new challenges posed by the evolution of society and the financial crisis have created renewed momentum for the modernisation of public sector. In order to meet these new demands and increasing expectations, public administrations need to be transformed. ICT-enabled public sector innovation aims to create and implement new and improved processes, products, services and methods of delivery in the public sector. The open government approach can facilitate this transformation. This paradigm is driven by opening up public data and services and facilitating collaboration for the design, production and delivery of public services. It is also about making government processes and decisions open, in order to foster citizen participation and engagement. H2020 supports these developments through various activities.
