Dr. Tom Heath: Open Data – Highs, Lows, and Big Unknowns

In 2013 levels of enthusiasm and expectation surrounding open data reached new highs -- years of grassroots activism and government initiatives bore fruit, leading to open data activities across the globe. Are these new highs a foretaste of great times ahead for open data, or simply a peak of inflated expectation? As we continue to invest in realising the potential of open data, it's essential that we understand and reflect on the milestones that have gone before, and use this to shape our ongoing strategy. In this talk I'll look back on some of the highs and lows of open data in recent years, discuss their implications, and explore some of the big unknowns we face on the road ahead.
