Mr. Paul Hermans: Towards Semantic Standards

This session takes off with an introduction on what 'semantics' mean. The existing semantic web standards will be enumerated and their history explained: where do they come from and why, what are their benefits and how are they used and elaborated upon. It is in this context that the latest buzzword 'Linked Data' will be situated and defined. Some examples of this use in the government and health environment will be shown. Subsequently potential pitfalls and unrealistic expectations will be addressed. The session will end with some predictions for the future.
